The Man Who Lost His Wife
During a Swan Hellenic cruise in the Greek Islands, the ship called at Katakalon. Most of the passengers were getting on a bit, but nevertheless chose to visit the site of the original Olympiad in the locality aptly named Olympia. The day was a scorcher, shade limited, and the site vast and undulating. Towards the time of departure, Paul Cranny, son of Wales and one of the Swan's excursions team, started to round up his charges so that they would be on the bus in time for departure. Casting around, he chanced upon a very agitated lady who told him that she and her husband had become separated and she was unable to find him.
“Oh I am sorry to hear that Madam, but don't you worry now – you go back to the bus and when I see your husband, I'll tell him that's where you are. By the way, what does your husband look like?”
“Thank you so much Paul. He has white hair, glasses and a stick.”
“Well,” thought Paul to himself, “That narrows things down a bit,” and off he toddled to bring in the strays. Sure enough, he eventually saw a lone elderly gentleman, complete with white hair, glasses and a stick, trudging towards him.
“Hello there” said Paul, “Tell me, have you lost your wife?”
“Well, as a matter of fact I have” said the old fellow.
“Don't worry” said Paul “She's waiting for you back at the bus.”
“Really?” said the old man, giving Paul a funny look, “I doubt it – I lost her four years ago!”
